Are you a start-up, SME or a company looking for a new logo design or even a re-brand? Here, we share our step-by-step logo design process.
Designing a logo that is effective and delivers the results your business deserves is not a quick and easy process. Some think a logo can be designed in a day and set aside the lowest possible budget for what some people consider is a quick and easy project as it’s only a small icon or mark. Your logo may be used small most of the time but it is hugely important to your brand and business. A badly designed logo can damage your business before you even get started.
We will take great care and attention when designing your logo, which includes getting to know your business, competitor research, defining your brand characteristics and positioning. This discovery stage helps set goals so that we can design your new logo to convey the right message and attract your ideal customer.
Before any design work starts on your new logo we need to get to know your business, target audience and what makes you different. We need to understand how you would like your brand to be conveyed and get to know your competitors so that we can make sure your new logo design stands out from the crowd. Based on our initial discussions we prepare and email you a create brief, which outlines the above information and will allow us to set goals and targets the logo must meet including design routes. Once you have approved the creative brief we then move onto the design concept stage.
We always design three logo design options so that we can explore different design routes. Each option will also include how the logo will work in full colour, one colour and reversed out in white. We also show how the logo would work large and small, such as how the logo would work as a Favicon (the icon you see in your web browser when you visit a website or bookmark a site). We also explore different colour options and fonts that work both in print and online.
This stage can vary in terms of timescale. If we are just designing a logo, we like to allow a week to complete the first set of designs. If we are designing the logo and additional branding, this can take longer depending on your requirements. For example we may produce visuals showing you how the logo and brand can be applied to a website, printed literature, advertising, packaging or even vehicle graphics. this is dependent upon your requirements.
The three design options will then be emailed to you as a PDF, which you can print off, review and provide feedback via email, telephone, Zoom, MS Teams or a meeting. Each design option also includes supporting notes explaining how we approached each design. Following your feedback, we will then refine your chosen design. We allow for three minor design revisions. Should the design take a different route from what we agreed in Stage 1, we would need to discuss additional costs. No further work would commence until the additional costs have been approved.
Once you have approved your new logo, we prepare the logo in various formats such as AI, EPS, JPG and PNG that you can use for print and online. We also provide a usage document that explains which logo format is best for different uses, for example in a printed document or social media icon. Should you ever need the logo in any other format or size we will be more than happy to assist.
